UEFA Champions League Football Betting
Widely regarded as the best and most prestigious club competition in world football, the UEFA Champions League never fails to excite. 2007-08 saw the first ever all English final, with Man Utd narrowly snatching the title from Chelsea on sudden death penalties in Moscow. This year, the same two clubs start the competition as joint favourites in the Champions League outright betting at odds of 11/2.

However, Italian Serie A champions Inter Milan (8/1), Spanish Primera Division winners Real Madrid (9/1), Arsenal (9/1) and Liverpool (10/1) will all have something to say about that come the end of May when two of Europe's finest clubs arrive in Rome to battle it out for the biggest club title there is. Bear in mind, though, that only four of the aforementioned clubs has featured in the Champions League final in the past 6 years, and they were all English. Could one of the "outsiders" feature? It would seem unlikely, but anything can happen in this tournament.

William Hill has the best coverage of this terrific sporting event, and it keeps going to the very end. Each televised match will be covered in depth by our fantastic betlive service, which allows you to bet on myriad opportunities right to the 90th minute. The first group stage starts on the 16th September - you know where to come to get your bets.

2008 UEFA Champions League Final Review

Last year's final was the first ever all-English final in the competition, between English Premier League Champions Man Utd and runners-up Chelsea. The final was not a classic but was certainly far superior to the last time the sides met in a major final, 2007 FA Cup final.

Man Utd started off the much better team and deservedly took the lead through a towering header by goal sensation Ronaldo. Chelsea then hit back, albeit in fortuitous circumstances after two deflections the ball landed at Frank Lampard's feet and he duly equalised. In the second half Chelsea came out determined to win the Champions League for the first time with Man Utd firmly on the back foot. But with the rain beating down the match petered out with both teams more focussed on not conceding than attempting to score a winner.

Extra-time arrived, and went with little more action than a spat of 'handbags' which saw Didier Drogba needlessly dismissed. This proved crutial as Man Utd came out winners in a sudden death penalty shootout, just as had been the deciding format in the 2001, 2003 and 2005 finals. The Champions League final is rarely a dull affair, and no doubt the Stadio Olimpico will see some fireworks in May 2009, on or off the pitch.
